Gift of a Day in memory of Anne Weeks

Posted: August 5th, 2025

By Ali English

On Wednesday 6 August the costs to fund one full day of care in the Sir Tom Cowie Day Care Centre this week have been kindly donated in loving memory of Anne Weeks.

"We chose the 6 August 2025 to commemorate our mother, as this date would have been our parents’ 70th Wedding Anniversary.

Our mother, Anne Weeks, lived a full and active life. Born in Gloucester, in 1932, she spent her formative years in nearby Churchdown. The family moved to Cardiff in 1941, where many happy years were spent.

In 1949, when her father was promoted to Area Manager of the General Electric Company (GEC), a move north followed, with Rowlands Gill being the chosen destination for the family home.

Anne also worked for the GEC, as a sales assistant, until marrying Frank in 1955, when she became a full-time home maker. The couple went on to have three daughters, Clare, Fiona and Linda, with Anne cherishing her role as a dedicated wife and mother.

The girls always appreciated their great fortune, being blessed with wonderful parents, and enjoyed numerous adventures in their youth and beyond.

Anne always loved the great outdoors and animals, also being passionate about gardening and, as a very gregarious person, loved entertaining. Anne adored travel, whether in the UK or abroad and was an avid reader, who also loved quizzes in later life. She was also a great writer, regularly producing articles for canine magazines and other publications.

Anne was overjoyed when she became a grandmother to Chloe, in 1994, and again in 1998, when Michael was born.

After Frank died in 2016, Anne continued to live independently, with the help of family, friends and carers until the age of 91, when declining mobility meant she required full-time care.

Anne and Frank were supporters of Willow Burn for many years, regularly attending organised events.

Both Anne and Frank were dearly loved and are greatly missed by all the family."

We also attach two photographs, one of Mum and Dad on their wedding day, on 6th August 1955. They were married at St. Patrick’s Church, High Spen.

The second photo was taken at the ruins of Guisachan House, near Tomich, in the Scottish Highlands, the location being the birthplace of the Golden Retriever, a breed we are all passionate about. Our parents, in conjunction with others, undertook much research, adding to the knowledge of the history of the breed, which was developed by Lord Tweedmouth and others, in the 1850s onwards.
