Willow Burn Hospice is celebrating the re-opening of The Willows Café with the launch of a bespoke coffee blend created by Durham Coffee.
The Willows Café is re-opening its doors from 12 April, for takeaways and garden seating, following the third lockdown. During the time the café has been closed, the team has been working with local coffee roasters, Durham Coffee, to create a new coffee blend to serve and sell in the café.
Rachel Todd, Marketing Communications Manager at Willow Burn Hospice said, “We were so disheartened when we had to close our café and shops for a third time, all vital sources of income to the hospice, so when Durham Coffee got in touch we were thrilled to work on a new project with them in time for re-opening.
Not only has the bespoke coffee blend provided us with a new income stream, but it has enabled us to join forces with a local business and to develop our networks and coffee making skills.”
As well as being sold on the café menu, the bags of Willow Burn Blend are also for sale to customers from Willow Burn, perfect for brewing coffee at home or for gifts. Open Monday to Friday, 10am – 2.30pm, The Willows is a beautiful community café located at Willow Burn. The café, serviced by a catering team and volunteers, boasts gorgeous views across Derwentside and serves an array of delicious home-cooked food. All profits from The Willows Café provide funding for hospice care in County Durham.
Durham Coffee are speciality coffee roasters, fusing exciting flavour profiles with a celebration of heritage and community. “From bean to cup and the treasured relationships we build along the way, for us coffee roasting is a very personal undertaking that is more than simply savouring great coffee, but also about connecting our taste buds with imagination and allowing people and places to influence our experience.
Supporting our local community and building connections through coffee is something we are also very passionate about and thus we love being able to work with Willow Burn Hospice. It has been great fun creating a bespoke coffee for them and we enjoyed doing some training with the volunteers and being able to share our passion.”
All profits from the Willow Burn Blend will help you to fund hospice care, day services and bereavement support for people living in County Durham with a life limiting illness.
