On 3 August – 5 August the costs to operate the Helen McArdle In-Patient Wing have been donated by Sir Bob Murray.

On Friday 4 February we were honoured to welcome Sir Bob Murray, former Sunderland AFC Chairman and Chairman of the Foundation of Light to Willow Burn. Sir Bob was joined by our patron, Helen McArdle CBE, for a tour of the facilities here at the hospice.

Following his visit, Sir Bob donated £5000 to Willow Burn to fund three days in the Helen McArdle Wing:

“I am very proud of the fact that I was born and brought up in Consett, hence my vast interest in Willow Burn Hospice, which I had the honour of visiting earlier this year.

To say I was impressed is a vast understatement. What an experience, both state of the art and homely with passionate staff all there for the local community.

I would encourage anyone who has the means to do so to financially support this deserving charity.

I am really privileged to be associated with this special place.”

Paul Jackson, Chairman of Willow Burn Hospice said:

"What does a day mean to you? To patients and their families it can mean everything.

Each day it costs £1,500 to run the Helen McArdle Wing for 24 hours and £500 to run day care in the Sir Tom Cowie Wing. By generously gifting a day of care, you will be offering vital support to patients and their families during one of the most difficult times in their lives.

A huge thank you to Sir Bob Murray for this incredibly generous donation, it will truly make a difference to our patients and their families over the next three days."

The team at Willow Burn would also like to wish a very Happy Birthday today to Sir Bob.
