Our Family Support Team provides a range of services to anyone suffering from life limiting illness, their families and carers. Support is provided from diagnosis, pre-death, post-death and is ongoing throughout the bereavement process. This support is offered not only to our in-patients in the Helen McArdle Wing and day care clients, but we also accept referrals from hospitals, GPs and Macmillan Cancer Care.
Those who are affected by a diagnosis of a life-limiting or terminal illness may have the ability to support each other without the need of outside help. However, our Family Support Service offers a confidential and free service which includes ‘one-to-one’, couple or family counselling. Our Family Support Worker helps to assess patient and family needs, providing: advice and information, sign posting to other relevant services and practical assistance. She also provides the unique service of offering interim support to anyone who is on our waiting list for counselling, and who are unable to be seen immediately.
Our bereavement support begins by providing a regular Service of Remembrance at the hospice, which offers you the opportunity to say goodbye to your loved one, and to light a candle in their memory.
On-going bereavement support is provided by one-to-one counselling and Bereavement Support Groups, which are held in the hospice. Upon completion of at least six one-to-one bereavement counselling sessions, or six sessions at one of our Bereavement Support Groups, people may be referred to join local peer support groups which aim to provide social activities and on-going support to each other.
The Willow Burn Hospice Family Support Team works tirelessly to provide an individual service to people who may be undergoing the most difficult time of their lives.
