It’s back! Pedal for Pounds returns for 2018!
Join us on Saturday 16th June as we take on our annual bike ride event to help raise funds to support the work of Willow Burn Hospice. This year’s event is even bigger and better than before with 2 challenges to take on.
Family Cycle – this 20mile ride departs from Consett Rugby Club at 11am and heads up to Park Head past Lydgetts Junction, up into Rowley along the Waskerly Way. At Park Head riders can take a break at our free refueling station and head back through the stunning scenery to the Rugby Club in Consett.
Challenge Cycle – if 20miles isn’t bold enough for you, why not take on our epic 57mile circuit?! Departing from Consett Rugby Club around 9am, this challenge takes cyclists down to Shotley Bridge, towards Newlands and Whitton Stall onto a scenic route onto Blanchland to Hunstanworth and up to Allenhead. After a pit stop close by at our free elite refueling station, riders then set off again towards Edmundbyers following on to Park Head. Then either join the cycle track to Consett or stay on the roads to Castleside turning off to Lanchester and back to Consett Rugby Club.
We will have plenty of sign posts along the Challenge route and a welcoming party at each rest stop for cyclists to check in but this year’s Pedal for Pounds will be a cycling spectacular for any keen or budding riders from across the region.
Registration for the Family Cycle is £5 per child and £8 per adult including refreshments.
Registration for the Challenge Cycle is £15 which includes elite refreshments at the rest point.
Each registration will receive a Fundraising and Event Pack (including maps and routes) with some easy ways to get your on your journey as sponsorship is encouraged.
Before you set off there’ll be a chance for you to fuel up on delicious bacon sandwiches and hot drinks from the great team at Consett Rugby Club and lots of delicious hot food and snacks available to buy on your return too!
