The Consett and District Sunderland Supporters’ Association has raised and donated over £7,000 to Willow Burn Hospice this week.
The outstanding fundraising effort comes at a time when every little helps, with communities across the world pulling together to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.
Over the years, the Consett and District SA has raised over £40,000 for Willow Burn Hospice and this season, through various events, including a talk-in with SAFC chairman Stewart Donald.
The secretary of the branch, Phil Pollard, said: “We have supported Willow Burn with our fundraising for a number of years, so when we became aware of their urgent appeal and that they were facing some financial challenges due to the impact of Covid-19, it made sense to make our annual donation early. The money will play a huge part in allowing them to continue delivering much-needed care for their in-patients. The generosity of our members knows no bounds and we are proud that the funds we have raised are supporting such an important local charity.”
The Consett and District Sunderland Supporters’ Association are currently celebrating their 25th anniversary, having been founded in 1995 and amassed over 300 members.
They provide transport to all home fixtures at the Stadium of Light, while also hosting various fundraising events throughout the year.
