This week we caught up with Christine Watchman, the Ladies Captain at Hobson Golf Club. One of her duties as Ladies Captain is to raise funds for charity by hosting a golf and fun day and Christine has very kindly chosen to support Willow Burn Hospice this year.
Read our interview with Christine below:
Why did you choose to support Willow Burn Hospice?
My Captain’s year runs from November 2016 to the end of October 2017, and during that time we have recently held one event for Breast Cancer. Each year the lady Captain is allocated a day by the club where she can raise money for a charity of her choice. It was through speaking to Roy Beckwith, Willow Burn Ambassador, that he told a group of ladies that Willow Burn had plans to grow, and the seed was planted so to speak.
Tell us a bit about yourself.
I retired at 58, I used to work for Yardley and had a busy job with a lot of travelling. Once I retired I was quiet restless and my husband who is also a member at Hobson Golf Club suggested I take up golf. I signed up for a Get into Golf course which was for beginners and it took off from there. 3 years later and I am the Ladies Captain!
What do you love about golf?
Golf has a great social side to it, we regularly play at other courses around the County, both in competitive and friendly matches. We also have very successful social evenings were we raise funds towards running the club.
What do you want to achieve at the Charity Day?
I want people to have fun and enjoy themselves and also to raise as much money as we can for Willow Burn. I want people to be motivated and sign up for next year!
