On Sunday April 23rd Jill Young, our very own Willow Burn One braved the streets of London to run the London Marathon for us. Read her story below.
I am Jill Young and this year I was chosen to be the Willow Burn One, running London Marathon in their only charity place. Being the Willow Burn One for London Marathon 2017 was one of the greatest experiences of my life. As silly as this sounds I was daunted at first by the fundraising aspect as this is not something I have done before, the 26.2 miles wasn’t a worry at all this was known territory. However, the amazing Willow Burn Team were right by my side with help, advice and encouragement.
Training for any race is tough you find yourself wondering what you’ve got yourself into and how will you ever get to the end. For me the knowledge that people were sponsoring and I was raising money to help the amazing team at Willow Burn, continue to provide the palliative care for some many people and their families gave me a purpose to keep on track with training right up to race day!
Being part of your charity’s team enhanced my whole experience from the moment I sign up right up to event day. I wore my charity vest with pride all the way round London Marathon, and enjoy the camaraderie amongst your fellow charity runners!
Willow Burn will offer you fantastic support and encouragement with both your training and fundraising and on Great North Run day to cheer you on and congratulate you when you cross the finish line and visit them in the charity village.
To date Jill has raised over £2,000 including gift aid and we can’t thank her enough for this support.
We still have places available for the Great North Run 2017 and if Jill has inspired you to make a difference please sign up here
